The impact of artistes and the music from
the Caribbean on the world of popular music has been phenomenal. The accomplishments of Harry
Belafonte, Bob Marley, Eddy Grant, Gloria Estefan, Ricky Martin, Wyclef Jean, Shaggy and
Lauryn Hill speak volumes for the significance of Reggae, Salsa, Merengue,
Soca and Calypso in popular music worldwide.
Caribbeat Entertainment Limited was formed
by Jamaican entertainment lawyer Lloyd Stanbury in 1988. The mission of
the company is to create an Internet environment to give recognition to
the exploits of Caribbean artistes, wherever they may be, and to satisfy
the need for the effective online promotion and distribution of music
products and services from the Caribbean. The company operates on the
premise that there is great demand for the music products and services of
the region in places like North and South America, Europe and Japan. With
the use of Internet based technologies Caribbeat is establishing a portal
to provide a vehicle for promotion, distribution and other music industry
services.
The company’s activities include, online
retailing of CDs, digital downloads, Internet radio, master licensing and
performance and studio bookings. Caribbeat’s focus is on the wide range
of music genres from the Caribbean such as Reggae, Salsa, Merengue, Soca,
Calypso, Zouk and Dancehall.
Principal Officers
The principal officers of the company are,
C.E.O. Lloyd Stanbury, an attorney with over 17 years experience in the
regional and international music arena who is also chairman of the
Caribbean Music Expo, and Director of Online Services Marcel
Robinson, who
is also president of Interlinc Communications and honours graduate
of the University of the West Indies with a BA in Mass Communications.

Caribbean Music Expo (CME) – The
CME is an annual international music trade fair, which brings together
music producers from the Caribbean and media and music executives from
around the world in a series of conferences, concerts and exhibitions.
This event is chaired by Lloyd Stanbury, and serves as a major tool in
the development of the Caribbeat project.
